The High-Fin Albino Corydoras
(Corydoras aeneus var. "High-Fin") is a popular, selectively bred variation of the common Bronze Corydoras. It is characterized by its lack of pigmentation—resulting in a pale white or pinkish body with red eyes—and an elongated dorsal fin that is significantly taller than the standard variety.
Key Characteristics
- Appearance: A creamy white or pinkish translucent body with bright red eyes. The "High-Fin" trait refers specifically to the dorsal fin, which can grow notably long and upright.
- Size: Typically grows to an adult length of 2.5 to 3 inches (6–7.5 cm).
- Temperament: Peaceful, social, and active bottom-dwellers. They are ideal for community tanks with other non-aggressive species.
- Behavior: They are schooling fish and should be kept in groups of at least six or moreto feel secure and exhibit natural behaviors.
Care Requirements
- Tank Size: A minimum of 15–20 gallons is recommended for a small school.
- Substrate: Requires smooth sand or fine gravel to protect their sensitive barbels (whiskers), which they use to sift for food.
- Diet: Omnivorous scavengers. They need a variety of sinking foods such as sinking pellets, wafers, frozen bloodworms, and brine shrimp.
-
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 72°F to 78°F (22°C–25°C).
- pH: 6.0 to 7.0 (slightly acidic to neutral).
-
Hardness: 3–12 dKH.

Breeding & Availability
While standard Albino Cories are very common and affordable ($2.50–$5.00), the High-Fin or Longfin variants are less common in general pet stores and may need to be sourced from specialty breeders or online aquarium shops. They are relatively easy to breed; spawning is often triggered by a cool water change.
