The
L288 Pleco, also known as the Una Tiger Pleco, is a small, attractive species of suckermouth catfish native to the Curuá-Una River in Brazil. Belonging to the Peckoltia genus, it is popular among hobbyists for its striking "tiger-like" banded pattern and manageable size.
Key Characteristics
- Scientific Name: Peckoltia sp. (L288).
- Common Names: Una Tiger Pleco, L288.
- Size: Typically reaches a maximum length of about 3.9 inches (100 mm), making it suitable for medium-sized aquariums.
- Appearance: Features a golden-brown body with bold, dark horizontal or slightly slanted stripes.
Care and Habitat
- Diet: They are omnivorous but lean towards a carnivorous diet compared to some other plecos. They enjoy high-quality sinking pellets, frozen foods like bloodworms or mosquito larvae, and occasional vegetables.
- Tank Setup: They appreciate a setup with plenty of hiding spots. Providing rock pilesand wood tangles is recommended to mimic their natural river environment. Plants are not strictly necessary but can be included.
- Behavior: Generally peaceful and "unfussy," they make excellent tankmates for a wide variety of fish, including small tetras, corydoras, and even larger, non-aggressive cichlids.
- Breeding: They are cave spawners. Males can be identified by the development of small, tooth-like "odontodes" on their pectoral fins and the back half of their bodies, while females are typically wider when viewed from above.
