The Orange Eye Red Tiger [OERT) is a striking, selectively bred variant of freshwater dwarf shrimp (Caridina mariae). They are highly prized in the aquarium hobby for their translucent bodies adorned with vivid red stripes and "glowing" orange eyes, a unique genetic mutation.
Appearance and Features
  • Vibrant Pattern: Features intense red tiger-like striping on a translucent or slightly orange-toned body.
  • Orange Eyes: Their most captivating trait is their bright orange eyes, which provide a dramatic contrast against the red stripes.
  • Mutations: The orange eye trait is a naturally occurring mutation that may cause partial blindness, though it does not seem to affect the shrimp's health or behavior in a tank environment.
  • Variants: Popular sub-variants include the Orange Eye Red Tiger Lily, which has a more opaque red and white coloration, and the Orange Eye Red Tiger Blue Body (OERTBB), which features a blue base tint.
